Reality Labs - Content Design Vision Work
New Spaces & Product Areas
As AR/VR headsets become more widely adopted, users will be immersed within experiences that will require content to shift from the linear journeys of 2D to the more fluid, multi-sensory experiences of 3D. Content will take on new forms, introducing non-text content design such as haptics, gestures and signals. How are Content Designers beginning to face these challenges? How will spatial and contextual content models impact how we practice content design? What are ways we can communicate that doesn’t involve writing words in Figma? I've spent the last year focusing on the evolution of Content Design in Virtual Reality.
While I'm not able to share much of my work in this space, I have briefly discussed key points and topics below.
New Mental Model Journeys
Learning to use a new feature on a completely new platform requires redeveloping expectations around the knowledge a user brings to a product. In order to understand the right questions to ask, we walked through the mental process of learning something new in order to identify the journey of approaching something completely foreign to a state of understanding. We then developed hypotheses, design principles, and frameworks to inform overall product design.
Framework Development
From these learnings, my team developed a framework for Content Design VR Best Practices to begin rolling out workshops across Reality Labs
Presentation at Internal Virtual Reality around how to prepare for CD challenges of 3D spatial design in the Metaverse
Panel discussion around key Content Design pain points across Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality
Presentation around understanding the emotional connection of togetherness in VR
Quarterly workshops around key topics including:
Thinking and designing spatially
Feature definition and terminology
Considerations and best practices for 2D to 3D translation
Designing for an embodied experience
